July 24—Blood Assurance in Critical Need
Blood assurance is in critical need of O negative blood donations. The regional blood center currently has less than one day’s supply of O negative blood. Approximately 4% of the population has O negative blood, which is commonly referred to as the universal type of blood. It is used in emergency situations when the patient’s blood type is unknown. July 24, 31—Chattanooga History Series Repeated
The Chattanooga History Center, in cooperation with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will offer a series, A Short History of Chattanooga, at 7p.m. on Thursdays throughout July in the Card Family Auditorium on the campus of UTC. The mini-course will examine our city’s many layers of human experience, including what happened, the ways of Chattanooga’s story has been told, and new ways to tell it for the next generation. July 25-27—West Running-Brook
Chattanooga State Repertory Theatre will present for the second consecutive year a professional summer theatre festival employing over 45 professional theatre artists. West Running-Brook: The Poetry of Robert Frost was adapted for the stage by Anne Snell and directed by Sherry Landrum. Performances July 25-27. Friday performances are at 7:30p.m., Saturday’s performances are at 2:30p.m. and 7:30p.m., and Sunday’s performances are at 2:30p.m. A story theatre production of Poet Laureate and four-time Pulitzer recipient Robert Frost’s poems which have been skillfully arranged to show the journey of life. July 25—Community of Faith and Family Night
Life Care Center of Chattanooga invites the media and the community to its second Community of Faith and Family Night on July 25, from 5:30-8:30pm, between the campuses of Life Care Center of Chattanooga and Orchard Knob Middle School. The evening will include gospel music, free food and drinks, and children’s activities. Tickets are required to attend and they may be obtained at Life Care Center of Chattanooga. July 31—Organ Recital
On Thursday, July 31, Katherine Meloan will present an organ recital at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 7p.m. She is starting a doctoral program in Organ Performance at the Manhattan School of Music in the fall. July 31—Contemporary Sculpture Slide Lecture
The Museum Center at 5ive Points is hosting a slide lecture on contemporary sculpture on Thursday, July 31 at 6:30p.m. The lecture will be given by Dr. Gavin Townsend of UTC and is titled “Hands of Bronze: Josh Coleman in Context.” The lecture is part of the exhibit, “Josh Coleman: Why Sculpture?” which is on view at the Museum Center from July 26 to September 6. August 1-3; August 8-10—Macbeth
Chattanooga State Repertory Theatre will present for the second consecutive year a professional summer theatre festival employing over 45 professional theatre artists. Shakespeare’s Macbeth will be directed by Garry Lee Posey on August 1-3 and August 8-10. Friday performances are at 7:30p.m., Saturday’s performances are at 2:30p.m. and 7:30p.m., and Sunday’s performances are at 2:30p.m. Macbeth is Shakespeare’s bloody epic about witches, betrayal, greed, and evil. August 2,3—26 th Annual Cherokee Days of Recognition
Red Clay State Park will host the 26th annual Cherokee Days of Recognition festival August 2-3. The festival will feature traditional Cherokee dance, food and arts. Activities will begin at 10a.m. each day and run until 5p.m. The festival is free and open to the public. August 6—NW GA Bank Golf Benefit
The 20th annual Northwest Georgia Bank Foundation Golf Benefit will be held on Wednesday, August 6. Funds raised by the tournament benefit numerous non-profit organizations and also helped build the Northwest Georgia Bank Amphitheatre. The Chattanooga History Center will present Nicely Walking Tours based on Maury Nicely’s “Chattanooga Walking Tour and Historic Guide” at 7p.m. on August 12. The tour route and content are from the Irish Hill section of Nicely’s book. Sites included in the tour are Fountain Square, the dome Building, First Methodist Episcopal Church Tower, and much more. The Association for Visual Arts announces its upcoming fourth annual Summer Art Camp from June 2-July 24. The camp will be held at the Northside Presbyterian Church. River Gallery’s July artists communicate the lasting significance of human interactions without saying a word.  Ric Savid emotionally connects viewer and subject through his black and white photography.  An undeniable proximity is felt in the honest tranquility of Filipino natives as they are captured in astonishingly intimate detail. The Chattanooga Downtown Partnership presents the Friday Market and Rhythm & Noon concerts at Miller Plaza. From 11-2p.m. enjoy the Friday Market in Miller Plaza’s Waterhouse Pavilion featuring a variety of items for sale including fresh strawberries, canned goods, homemade candles, fresh flowers and hand-made jewelry. July 26 Through September 6—Coleman Sculpture Exhibit
The Museum Center at 5ive Points has organized an exhibit of 21 pieces of contemporary sculpture by Cleveland artists Josh Coleman. The exhibit, Jose Coleman: Why Sculpture?, explores two themes: how artists are inspired and what impact outdoor contemporary sculpture can have on revitalizing downtown Cleveland.
