March 5-7--Printmaking from Glass Workshop
The Hunter Museum of American Art, AVA and Ignis Glass present a Printmaking from Glass Workshop, taught by Bruce Benfield and Juanita Tumelaire. The workshop includes a Friday evening private tour of the Hunter Museum with curator of education, Adera Causey, which will focus on prints in the museum’s collection. On Saturday, participants will work in Ignis’ hot shop to develop a glass plate using a sandblasting method. Participants will return to the Hunter Museum on Sunday to run their plates through the traditional printing press. All supplies for this workshop are included in the registration fee. Participants will walk away with 4-8 limited edition prints on paper and their glass plate.  Two sessions are available--morning or afternoon. *This workshop is only available to members of the Hunter Museum of American Art and/or AVA. Now Through March 16--Icebergs and Moon Walks
The Cress Gallery of Art features works from two of Nicholas Kahn and Richard Selesnick’s multi-year photographic projects: The Apollo Prophesies (2006) and Eisbergfreistadt (2010).  Both projects are whimsical yet topical elaborations upon actual events of history: respectively, the 1969 NASA Apollo Lunar Mission; and the 1923 arrival of an iceberg on the shore of the German port city of Lubeck. The exhibition will include photographs, panoramic photographs, video, objects, sculpture, costume, and ephemera all created by the artists, along with documentary video of their process.For more information, visit www.utc.edu/cressgallery.

Now through April 16--Sister City: Works by Elizabeth Tubergen
Video and mixed media installation artist, Elizabeth Tubergen, a Covenant College alumnus, will bring her thought-provoking work to the AVA Gallery, then return to Iceland to continue her projects funded by both the Fulbright and America-Sandinavian Foundations. Her exhibit will by on display through April 16.

March 13--16th Annual Cousin Jake Memorial Bluegrass Festival
The 16th Annual Cousin Jake Memorial Bluegrass Festival will be held on March 13 in the Historic Gem Theater in Downtown Etowah, TN. Music begins at 12pm. April 17, 18--4 Bridges Arts Festival
The 4 Bridges Arts Festival celebrates its 10th Anniversary on April 17 and 18 at the First Tennessee Pavilion. This annual event, produced by the Association for Visual Arts (AVA), introduces visitors, amateur art buyers, and serious collectors to a variety of uniquely original artwork. The North River Rotary Club of Chattanooga presents its 3rd annual Gourmet Guys event featuring 30 local amateur chefs on Saturday, March 6 at Rivermont Presbyterian Church Gymnasium from 4-7pm. March 4 Through 25--Adobe Illustrator Class
AVA will host a Illustrator Class on Thursdays from March 4 Through 25 from 6-8pm.  This introductory class, taught by designer Mark Lammie, will provide students with the skills necessary to successfully explore the wide range of possibilities Illustrator offers to graphic and fine artists as well as business people.  Students will learn to create vector drawings, work with type and glyphs, and utilize paths and filters. March 9--Naomi Tutu to Speak
Naomi Tutu, a long-time advocate for peace and human rights and the daughter of South African Archbishop and Nobel Peace Prize winner Desmond Tutu, will be the featured speaker in Lee University chapel Tuesday, March 9, at the Conn Center. Tutu started public speaking as a student at Berea College in Kentucky in the 1970’s about her experiences growing up in apartheid South Africa, and has not stopped since. The chapel service begins at 10:40 a.m. and visitors are welcome.
 
March 11--Dealing With Difficult Behaviors Workshop
Jane Ketchum, R.N. of Erlanger will present a workshop on how to cope with the difficult behaviors that often accompany Alzheimer’s and other types of dementias on Thursday, March 11 at 10am at the Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors Center at 190 Depot Street in Soddy-Daisy. March 13--Basic Introduction to Digital Photography
AVA present a Basic Introduction to Digital Photography as part of a free workshop series aimed at individual who are 55 years of age or older. The four-hour workshop will explore digital photography basics like how to use your camera, settings and functions, how to take a good photograph and how to transfer your pictures from your camera toy our computer to edit and print. March 7--Jazz Vespers at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church
St. Timothy's Episcopal Church will host the third annual Jazz Vespers on Sunday, March 7 at 5pm. All are welcome to attend this free service. By incorporating jazz music into the sung and played prayer, St. Timothy’s will follow in the long tradition of Jazz Vespers. Many well-known jazz composers have written sacred music, including Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck, and Joe Williams. These services also adapt secular music to spiritual ends. March 8--Chattanooga Symphony and Opera Youth Orchestra
The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera Youth Orchestras (CSOYO) will be presenting a Winter Concert at Chattanooga School of the Arts and Sciences beginning at 7:30pm on March 8. The CSOYO Prelude and Etude Orchestras will be performing a variety of music, including Minuet from Water Music (Handel), Pachelbel’s Canon, and El Toro (Brubaker). The program will last approximately 30 minutes.
 
March 8--Spring Concert
Lee University Chorale will present its spring concert on Monday, March 8 at 7:30pm. The concert will be held at Cleveland’s First Baptist Church. Assistant Professor of Music Dr. William R. Green will conduct this 36-voice select ensemble in an exciting program including the music of Georg Schumann, Eleanor Daley, Johannes Brahms, and dynamic American composer Dan Forrest.The concert is open to the public and free of charge.  For more information contact the School of Music at 614-8240.
 
March 8,9--CSO Audition Announcement
Auditions will be held on March 8 and 9, 2010 from 5:00 until 8:00 for Amahl and the Night Visitors by Gian-Carlo Menotti. The opera will be presented November 11 and 12, 2010, in collaboration with Chattanooga Theatre Centre and Chattanooga Ballet. Auditions will be held in the nave of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church located at 305 West Seventh Street, Chattanooga. Applicants must be prepared to present two arias from the standard operatic/oratorio repertoire, one of which is in English. Be prepared to sing an excerpt from Amahl and the Night Visitors. The audition will begin with the selection of your choice. Specific feedback concerning the audition will not be available.

Lee University School of Music will present soprano and alumna Jessica Usherwood in concert on Tuesday, March 9 at 7:30pm in the Squire’s Recital Hall. Usherwood's recital will be a classical program with performances of songs by Leonard Bernstein, Ricky Ian Gordon and songs from Andre Previn's Honey and Rue. March 11--String Theory at the Hunter
String Theory at the Hunter in partnership with Lee University will present a concert on Thursday, March 11 at 6:30pm at the Hunter Museum. March 13--Jericho Brass Band Concert
Chattanooga’s Jericho Brass Band, under the direction of Frank Hale, will perform a Benefit Concert for the Sand Mountain Food Bank.  A “free-will” offering will be collected during the concert. The concert will be held in the United Methodist Church in Trenton, GA on Saturday, March 13 at 6pm.

The Exchange Club of Chattanooga presents Big Band and Pipes of Fire. This concert featuring Big Band standards and world champion Bagpipers will be March 13 at 7:30pm at the UTC Roland Hayes Fine Arts Auditorium. March 14--Chattanooga Music Club Program
The next meeting of the Chattanooga Music Club will be held on Sunday, March 14, at 2:30pm at First Centenary Methodist Church on McCallie Avenue. Participating in the musical program will be Jay Craven, Mark Reneau, Sheri Peck, Laurie Minner, Suzanne Sims, John Brandon, and David Patton, organist at First Centenary.  Selections will include Brahms' Clarinet Quintet, a composition by Barber, and an organ offering.  Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

March 5,6--Children's Consignment Sale
The Chattanooga Area Mothers of Multiples Club (CAMOMC) will host a Children's Consignment Sale on Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6 at the East Ridge Community Center from 10-7pm. Quality infants and children’s clothing, as well as baby gear, shoes, toys, maternity items, and household goods will be available for sale. Proceeds of the sale will benefit local charities as well as the Chattanooga Area Mothers of Multiples Club.  The CAMOMC is a local chapter of the non-profit National Organization of Mothers of Twins Club.  CAMOMC is dedicated to the support and education of mothers and expectant mothers of multiple birth children. March 9--Chattanooga Writers Guild

Chattanooga CARES will host its 15th annual Strides of March in Coolidge Park. The Strides is a 3.1 mile walk/run through downtown Chattanooga. This event is designed to promote awareness of HIV throughout the Tennessee Valley as well as to raise funds for the agency. January 29 Through April 10--Free Tax Preparation
The Lee University Department of Business is partnering with the Internal Revenue Service's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to offer free tax preparation every Friday and Saturday in the Walker Memorial Building starting Jan 29. IRS certified junior and senior accounting students will provide assistance at the Walker Memorial room 108 from 2:30-5:30pm on Fridays and 9-12pm on Saturdays. The last day of filing tax returns through VITA at Lee is April 10. The maximum gross income limitation for eligibility has been increased this year from $42,000 to $49,000, enabling more to participate. Now Through April 15--Free Income Tax Preparation Services to Area Seniors
As a service to Chattanooga area seniors, Alexian Brothers Senior Ministries, AARP and VITA will provide free income tax preparation services free of charge at two locations. Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors at 1000 Newby Street in downtown Chattanooga: Wednesdays and Thursdays, February 3 through April 15 from 9-5pm. Please call 888.892.1875 for an appointment. AARP volunteers will provide the tax preparation services. Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors Soddy Daisy Community Center at 190 Depot Street in Soddy Daisy: Tuesdays, February 3 through March 31 from 9-12pm and 1-4pm. April 24,25--Gap Divided
“Gap Divided” an authentic War between the States living history and reenactment will be presented April 24 and 25 at Cumberland Gap. Visitors will be able to see the battles close up as well as infantry, cavalry, and artillery demonstrations.  There will be opportunities to visit authentic Civil War encampments, and eight stations presenting civil war talks and demonstrations on equipment and different branches of the army. The Ladies will have a Period Tea and Fashion show.
